Slow Fashion. Barthes, Greimas, und der Mythos der nachhaltigen Mode.
Auch im September 2024 fanden trotz andauernder Kritik an deren mangelnder Nachhaltigkeit wieder die Fashion Weeks statt. Mittlerweile gibt es zu den etablierten Fashion Weeks einige Gegenentwürfe, welche mit den Konzepten Sustainable oder Slow Fashion werben. Slow Fashion ist im Diskurs um nachhaltigen Modekonsum ein weit verbreitetes Konzept, dessen Definition nicht immer mit der kontextuellen Verwendung übereinstimmt.
Um sich dieser Diskrepanz zu nähern wurde Slow Fashion in diesem Podcast zunächst mithilfe von Barthes’ Mythos analysiert. Slow Fashion bezeichnet die menschen- und umweltfreundliche Produktion und den achtsamen und langlebigen Konsum von Mode. Neben diesen Kriterien erfüllenden Marken, ist auch die Philosophie des reduce, reuse, recycle darin miteingeschlossen. Etwas als Slow Fashion zu bezeichnen, dient aber auch zur Abgrenzung von der als negativ kategorisierten Fast Fashion und symbolisiert dadurch sorgenfreien Konsum sowie ethische Überlegenheit. Dabei wird sie auch zum Buzzword und kann mangels verbindender Definition oder Lizensierung selbst ohne die tatsächliche Erfüllung der benannten Defintion verwendet werden. Beobachtet wurde dies im Zuge dieser Analyse vor allem auf Instagram.Dem binären polarisierten Diskurs um Slow versus Fast Fashion mangelt es allerdings an Komplexität, wodurch Aspekte wie individuelle ökonomische Möglichkeiten vernachlässigt werden. Um dies zu vermeiden, wurde in der zweiten Hälfte des Podcast mithilfe des semiotischen Vierecks von Greimas Slow Fashion im weiteren Nachhaltigkeitsdiskurs kontextualisiert und in Relation zu Konzepten wie der Capsule Wardrobe gesetzt.
